Our Community Center Project Status

Dear Community Members,
In February 2020, we were thrilled to announce that a building was donated to Gulf Coast Equality for use as a rent-free community center by the Banister Foundation. This was a milestone in our long-term goal of establishing a community center in Gulfport on Pass Road.
However, shortly after our exciting start, the world faced the challenges of Covid-19, forcing us to put our project on hold until later that year. When we finally returned to the building, we encountered serious issues that needed addressing. Unfortunately, we discovered hazards such as asbestos, lead paint, and mold, and found that the building did not meet current safety codes. The cost of remedying these problems was far beyond our budget and not cost-effective.
Regrettably, due to these circumstances and a lack of communication from the building's owner, we had no choice but to vacate the premises to ensure the safety of our board members and volunteers.
Despite these setbacks, we remain dedicated to our vision of opening a community center for the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Each fundraiser we conduct contributes to this essential project, and all money raised specifically for the community center is earmarked for its development. We encourage you to check back for future updates on our progress. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out via our homepage.
Thank you for your continued support.
